Club Feedback on Referee Form

Did the referee have a sufficient knowledge of the Laws of the Game? Did the referee make an error in a matter of Law as opposed to a matter of opinion (e.g. allow a throw in from the goal line)?

Did the referee consistently apply all of the Laws, all over the field, all the time? Did the referee treat similar incidents similarly? Did the referee apply the Laws to both teams in the same manner?

Did the referee maintain control of the match? Did the referee’s approach to and involvement in the match suit the match? Did the referee respond to changes in the match tempo and temperature?

Did the referee make decisions in a firm, assertive and confident manner? Did the referee become flustered under pressure from players, team staff or the crowd and hurried into making decisions?

Did the referee use advantage in instances where there was both possession of the ball and opportunity to mount a promising attack? Did the referee use advantage in a manner that suited the match?

Did the referee appropriately sanction serious foul play (excessive, endangering force) with a red card? Did the referee appropriately sanction reckless play (complete disregard) with a yellow card?

Did the referee communicate well with players, both verbally and through body language (including hand signals)? Did the referee’s approach to communication assist in this communication?

Did the referee positively influence the behaviour of players? Did the referee adequately manage players at dead ball situations (including the defensive wall at dead ball situations)?

Did the referee address irresponsible behaviour in the technical area? Did the referee address instances of players crowding the referee to protest a decision? Did the referee address instances of swearing?

Did the referee appropriately sanction obvious and/or ongoing dissent with a yellow card? Did the referee appropriately sanction abusive, offensive or insulting language and/or gestures with a red card?

Did the referee display a sufficient level of fitness throughout the match in order to obtain the best possible view and make the correct decision? Did the referee keep out of the way of players and the ball?

Did the referee work effectively with the assistant referees? Did the referee draw upon the assistance of the assistant referees where such assistance would have assisted in making the correct decision?
