Mentors have an integral role in the development path of all new referees. Referees interested in becoming a mentor should contact MWFRA VP Juniors via email at [email protected].

Become an Assessor

Referees interested in becoming an assessor should contact MWFRA Assessors Convener via email at [email protected].

Assessor and Mentor Requirements

All assessors and mentors must hold a valid, paid employment WWC clearance number. The cost of obtaining this clearance is $80, which will remain valid for a period of five years.

More information, including the online application form, is available at the NSW Government Working with Children Check page.

Mentors are required to have sufficient experience in order to be appointed as a mentor. Such experience may include (but not limited to) years of experience, level of qualifications and frequency of matches at a certain standard. Whether a member has sufficient experience to mentor or not is determined by the relevant Vice President.

Assessors must hold at least an FFA Level 3 Assessor qualification in order to perform any formal assessment. This qualification permits an assessor to assess referees for their Level 3 Referee qualification upgrade. However, in order to assess a referee for a Level 2 Referee qualification upgrade, the assessor must possess at least a Level 2 Assessor qualification.

Note: Certain forms and assessor fees take precedence over other forms when it comes to the type of match assessment. For example, an assessor who is assessing a referee for their Level 3 qualification upgrade on a Men’s AL1s match must use the Referee Feedback Form over the Referee Assessment Form and will be paid an assessor fee of $40 in line with that assessment type. Furthermore, an assessor who is assessing a referee on a PL first grade match for their Level 2 qualification upgrade will be paid an assessor fee of $80 irrespective of whether the assistant referees are assessed or not. However, it is highly encouraged to assess both assistant referees.
